Committees

NABE Committees perform the administrative work of the association. Members are appointed by the president prior to the Annual Meeting. Committees meet by telephone conference and at the Midyear and Annual meetings.

Committees include:

Audit: Appointed by the Board of Directors to assist the Board in monitoring the integrity of the financial statements of NABE, the independent auditor’s qualifications and independence, and the performance of NABE’s independent auditors. Members

Chair: Harry Shipley, The Iowa State Bar Association

Bylaws: Exercises parliamentary jurisdiction, answers questions pertaining to interpretations of the bylaws and prepares additions, deletions, and amendments whenever appropriate; receives proposed changes from members or bodies within the Association for review and/or drafting; and makes recommendations to the Board of Directors. Members

Chair: Kari Hartman, Indianapolis Bar Association

Chief Staff Executive: Serves executive directors through networking and programming, and plans the annual CSE Retreat. Members

Chair: Zoe Linza, Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis

Diversity Development: Assists local and state bar leaders in gathering information, resources and skills needed to address and manage a broad range of minority involvement issues. Members

Chair: Kelly Legier, Louisiana State Bar Association

Elections: Oversees the NABE council election process. Members

Chair: Cathy Maher, Dallas Bar Association

Membership: Coordinates membership recruitment, mentoring and retention activities, including planning the First-Time Attendees activities at the Midyear and Annual meetings. Members

Chair: David Bohm, North Carolina Bar Association

Program: Plans, coordinates, and implements the educational program and social functions at Annual and Midyear Meetings of NABE. This committee is by appointment only.  Make a suggestion for annual and/or midyear programming. Members

Chair: Marc Staenberg, Beverly Hills Bar Association

Scholarship: Prepares scholarship applications and distributes these to NABE members. Reviews and decides to whom scholarships shall be awarded. Members

Chair: Francine Walker, The Florida Bar

Small Bar: Plans NABE's annual Small Bar Conference for executives of bars with limited staff, budgets of $300,000 or less and/or fewer than 1,500 members. Members

Chair: Kathy Sabol, Washington County Bar Association

Sponsorship: Contacts and identifies potential sponsors. Requests monetary contributions to help defray Midyear and Annual Meeting expenses. Members

Chair: Fran O'Rourke, Pennsylvania Bar Association

Surveys: Prepares, analyzes, and distributes a compensation survey every other year. Reviews, approves and coordinates other surveys devised by NABE committees or sections before dissemination. Members

Chair: Ellen Miller-Sharp, San Diego County Bar Association

Webinar: Works to bring NABE meetings to members at their own desks on their own schedule through delivery of selected NABE programs via webinar. The NABE Webinar Committee cooperates with the NABE Program Committee and the planners of other selected NABE and section programming to identify sessions suitable for recording, develops and manages the protocols for managing the processes necessary to deliver the programming, and develops strategies for marketing the webinars. Members

Chair: Angela Weston, Maine State Bar Association

Website/Knowledge Management: Oversees and helps to maintain content for the NABE website. Members

Chair: Kevin Ryan, Vermont Bar Association
